Our Heritage

A meeting was called at Captain Procter’s Schoolhouse in Logan County, Kentucky on the tenth of May 1834 for the purpose of constituting a church of the Baptist members. On May 23rd the group of fifteen formed and became duly constituted. At the first business meeting on June 7, 1834, it was agreed that the name of the church constituted at Captain Proctor’s Schoolhouse be called Friendship. In August of 1835 the church asked for admittance to the Bethel Association.

In June of 1866 the church voted to move their membership to Auburn and change the name of Friendship to the Auburn Church. Then in March of 1867 the Baptist Church of Christ at Friendship reconstituted themselves by the consent of the Auburn Baptist Church. Then on November 29, 1877, they dedicated their new house of worship and changed their name to New Friendship.

Throughout the years New Friendship became a church of growth and of spiritual service throughout the community. Because of the growth and needs that arose, a number of building programs followed. In 1958 a new sanctuary was completed. A new parsonage was begun in 1962. In 1973, a beautiful and serviceable education building was added to the church. As always God continued to bless as the members stepped out in faith. In 1983 the church completed a fellowship and recreational area adjoining the church. Throughout the years improvements were made such as carpeting, padded pews and a cap steeple. In 1996 the altar and choir area was expanded. Also during that year a beautiful prayer garden was built and dedicated. Two years later in 1998, the sanctuary was expanded to include a balcony, large vestibule and additional restrooms. In 2001, the Ministry Center was completed which included new Sunday School rooms, a new kitchen, a multi-purpose area which can be used for musical productions, church dinners, volleyball, basketball and children’s church.

Our prayer is that New Friendship Baptist Church will always be a church with a vision. God has blessed greatly, but He has many more blessings in store as we continue to step out in faith.
